By Moth or Moonlight (or '1derhome') is a 1-page tabletop roleplaying game about a group of travelling animals in a bittersweet world of magic and mystery. It was designed as a tiny alternative and tribute to my favourite game, Wanderhome.

You do not need Wanderhome to play this game.

By Moth or Moonlight asks players to tell stories about healing, nature and magic. It's intended for single sessions. Quick stats:

 👤👤 2+ players
 🤝 GM-agnostic
🚫🎲🧮 No coins or tokens

The download for this game contains a 1-page PDF with rules for character creation, developing a setting, and play. There are two versions: colour, and easy-print black and white.

If you like this game, consider checking out the rest of our work.

A note on pricing:

This game is free in the same way that a song from a busker is free. You're welcome to engage with it and enjoy it however you like. That said, if you loved it and have some spare change, it would be kind to drop some in the hat.

Originally developed for the Game Exploder game jam. Published under the Wanderhome Third Party License.

the character and setting creation is beautifully evocative.

I've not played wanderhome, but I feel like this could with a 2nd page for how to play.
What characters do, any objectives, complications etc

Totally fair. The curious thing about Wanderhome is that almost the whole game is driven by the internal struggles of the characters, which means that play can look a little opaque from the outside.  If I revisit this piece I might include a rumour table or something else to stir some intrigue and plant some plot seeds.

Thanks for reading, Paul. :)

What a soft, wonderful exploration of how characters shape their worlds, and relationships shape characters. I love this deconstructed style of play.
